“Forgive yourself for what was taught to you as a child, then put the conscious effort in to deprogramming these patterns” — Unknown

As kids, the only thing we focused on was playing. Seeing how many bugs we could kill & how many cuts we could accumulate at the playground in a week were the only things that mattered to us. We were free. But overtime, we evolved and so did our imagination. We set big expectations for ourselves and out of nowhere, BANG! You noticed a ceiling or a lid being put on that imagination.

When you look at stories of our favorite celebrities before they made it to their respective career titles, somewhere along the line, somebody told them they couldn’t do it. Steve Harvey said he suffered from a stuttering problem and the teach humiliated him in front of the class denouncing his dream of one day being on Television. Even one of the greatest basketball player of all times, Michael Jordan, was denied a spot on his High School roster. They told Oprah that she was “too emotionally invested” and was “unfit for TV”. What’s the one thing all of these examples (and millions more) have in common? They made the decision that one day they would become successful.

Now you may be wondering what the hell does this have to do with being a parent? I don’t have any kids (or expecting any) but in a sense, you do. We all have dreams that we want to accomplish, individual growth goals and etc. Your dream is your kid. You have to provide for it. You have to feed your dream and protect it from negative energy. You have to nurture your mind so you & your ventures can evolve. When we allow the outside opinions to dictate where we are headed, we are going down a trail of destruction, complacency and if it’s not monitored correctly, it could lead to many more years of regret. When we allow the voices of the past replay, it stops us from reaching our true potential. The good thing is that this is a temporary feeling and if you’re willing to do the work, it could benefit your future ten fold.

According to Dr. Bruce Lipton, and successful trials of my own, it is very possible to reprogram your subconscious mind. It is very possible that those negative voices that you hear replaying in your head every time you go to make a bold decision or you remember how the last time went and are unsure how this one will differ, can be swapped out for ones that will promote confidence. Unlearning some things you were taught as a jit and learning new programs as you begin your journey for the light has not only works but it is imperative.

When it comes to leading a life you want to live, it’s up to you to decide how the story unfolds. If you are like me and are new to parenthood and are striving to be a better father than the one you had growing up, it requires being your own individual person. You have a goal of one day starting your own company, it requires being a free thinker, making decisions based on how YOU run your company not how somebody else’s runs theirs. If you’re not careful, you will end up running a race that’s not yours and will wonder why you feel empty on the inside.

Breaking generational curses requires consistent use of affirmations and also making sure you life matching those affirmations. You want new opportunities? Move with confidence and poise. You want to be a better father? Provide leadership through example and not words so that everybody can see you walking the walk instead of talking the talk. I’ve been hammering the use of affirmations because the quality of my life has changed from the days of self-sabotage due to me living through these affirmations.

There is power in breaking generational curses. When you expect a different quality of life and you sow the seeds of gratitude into your minds new soil, you notice the sun will hit different on your garden. You will notice that when you are heading into the direction pertaining to your desired destination, you will notice doors begin to open and an overwhelming sense of love. Instead of going home angry and taking it out on your family, you will be taking them out on nice family vacations because you have successfully met your calling.

“It is up to us to break generational curses. When they say, ‘it runs in the family’ you tell them “this is where it runs out’” — Unknown
